Life as a Bachelor

Well Grandpa has been staying busy by going through drawers and cubbards finding all of Grams treasures, he says boy she was busy and I never even saw her do some of this stuff, he came accross her journal that she started, and pictures, and pictures and pictures.. he says she is a bigger pack rat than him, (hard to believe) He says he really misses her but I thik all of your phone calls and visits have helped him from being lonely. ( I don't think he has had time for that yet) Gramps said he has done more reading this week than he has in years.
He enjoys your calls and visits so much, thank you for taking time for him. I know Grams is watching us and is proud of us for keeping our promise to help take care of Gramps.
It is hard not seeing her when you go to their house but at the same time I am thankful she is not suffering any longer.
The Salt Lake city Journal wrote a really nice article about Grams it came in their mail yesterday, she really impacted a lot of lives, i am so proud of her..
Keep up the good work, and hope to talk to you soon..
Love ya
Chris

Side by Side

Here is the poem that Shane wrote for Grandma: Great job Shane it is beautiful

Side By Side

57 years ago, a young women and
A young man, stood side by side
To accept each other’s hand

Together they started a family
Complete with five children, and through out
The years shared heartache, pain and sorrow
The young couple still stood side by side for a better tomorrow

The new families learned about life from the young couple
Sharing lots of love, fun and laughter.
Some drifted out of town due to jobs and callings
But the love for the young couples family kept them side by side.

The family now big and a little stray,
Share the young couples love and it always
Brings the family together to pray.

Through fallen loved ones, sickness and wealth,
They stood side by side to show them the way.

Together they learned the young women’s fate,
And they still stood Side by Side
Even though it was too late.

And as we are here today to pass our sorrow,
We should keep in our hearts, 57 years later
A young women and a young man
Will still be side by side tomorrow.

KEEPING IN TOUCH

I just want to say how much Grandpa appreciates all your calls and visits, every time some one calls or visit's he tells me who he has heard from. I just want to say thanks for keeping him in your thoughts and for taking the time to stop by for a while.
Grandpa is keeping himself busy by going through some of Grandma's stuff, he says she is a bigger pac rat than him ( I know pretty hard to believe).
Saturday we will be going through some of Grandma's clothes if you are interested in any of them please let me know.
It is still so hard to believe that Grandma is now watching over us instead of being here with us. I miss her so much...
A lot of you have asked if there is anything you can do for Grandpa, and I am not much help.. I know in the spring time some of us can maybe get together and help him get his trim of the house painted, or he may have a few other little projects that he could use some help with.
I think for now just trying to keep him busy, with family and hopefully soon the weather will let him go fishing.
If you have any ideas for this web site please let me know or I can give you the address and pass word if any one would like to post any thing.
Thanks again for your love and concern for Grandpa..

HOW DO WE SAY GOOD BYE

I thought I would post the poem I wrote for Mom in case any one wanted to read it.

HOW DO WE SAY GOOD BYE

YOU HAVE BEEN OUR GUIDING LIGHT THROUGH GOOD AND BAD,
YOUR PASSING HAS MADE THE WORLD A PLACE THAT IS TRULY SAD…

AS YOU TAKE IN THIS NEW GREAT ADVENTURE
AND STAND IN HIS GLORY,
WE HAVE THE PRIVELEDGE TO CARRY ON YOUR LIFE’S STORY…

YOU HAVE ALWAYS FACED LIFES CHALLENGES WITH NO FEAR,
GIVEN YOUR FATE YOU HELD OUR HANDS WITH OUT EVEN A TEAR…

AS WE STRUGGLE WITH THIS SHOCKING NEWS,
KNOWING HEAVEN HAS ALL TO GAIN AND WE HAVE EVERYTHING TO LOSE…

I ADMIRE YOUR STRENGHT AND COURAGE THROUGH THIS LAST YEAR,
THIS DISEASE MADE YOUR BODY GIVE OUT WITH YOUR MIND EVER SO CLEAR…

YOU LEFT THIS LIFE HOLDING THE HAND OF THE ONE YOU LOVED SO DEAR,
ALL THOSE WHO LOVE YOU SHEDDING MANY TEARS…

YOU ARE NOW FREE FROM WHAT BOUND YOU FROM THE THINGS YOU LOVED,
I KNOW YOU ARE REJOICING AND WATCHING US FROM ABOVE…

IT IS HARD TO LET GO OF THE ONE WHO LOVED YOU FIRST,
THE ONE I COULD ALWAYS GO TO…

YOU ARE MY TRUELY MY HERO AND I LOVE YOU!!

Honorable Funeral

I know this has been an extremely sad time for all of us, and it has been quite an event getting Grams funeral arrangement together. This was quite an honor for her and our family.
I want to thank everyone from the visits at the hospital to the planning her program. I know Mom would be happy knowing everyone was there for her, and that she was able to hear all of our last thoughts.
Know one will ever know what she really must have gone through this last year, I am sure Dad knows more than anyone. I have never known any one as brave and strong as she was, we are all privledged to have been a part of her life.
I know Mom truely loved every one, and she never judged anyone. My personal goal is to be more like her.
I am sorry if anyone has had bad feelings through this, and I am sorry if I caused them. It was an extremely difficult week prior to her passing, because we felt so helpless trying to get her the proper care.
John and Melody has ben there through it all, and I want them to know how much we appreciate their time and effort in caring for Mom.
I also want to thank South Salt Lake Fire Fighters and Police officers, and the Mayor and City Council for all your thoughts and prayers and part in her funeral service, you gave her an honorable send off.
Please keep Grandpa in your thoughts and prayers this will be a hard time for him, we need to keep things as normal as possible for him as far as his visits and phone calls.
I am going to keep this Blog going for those interseted as to how Grandpa is doing and what we as a family can possibly help him with.

Love Chris

In Loving Memory

Our sweet Grandma fought very hard, but tonight she passed away about 5:20pm. We will all miss her so much. She was very much apart of everyones lives...she did so much for everyone, she was always giving. We are very proud of her and how she has handled everytning that she has been through the past little while. We sat there with her until the very end, she passed very peacefully. She didn't seem nervous or scared, she was so brave! Grandpa did the best that he could! He was being so strong, he loved her so much. They have always been such a team together, she could not have handled everything like she had with out him there. I know that it was very hard for him to see and be there when she did pass. Grandma you will be missed tremendously by everyone, we all love you and will always be thinking of you! Thank you for everything that you have done for everyone, and for being such a great romodel. I know there's not a greater Grandma out there than you!!!
We hope that you have the best journey ever!!!
We love you and miss you already!!!
Gramps, I just want you to know that we are all here for you if you need anything! We love you and are so sorry for your great loss. You are such a great Husband, Dad, and Grandpa, no one will ever compare to you. Thanks for taking such great care of Grandma!!!
We know that she loved you so much and is so proud of you for being so strong.
We love you Gramps so much!!!
Thank you to all of you who came to say your good bye's to Grandma, we know that she wanted a chance to say goodbye to everyone. Special thanks to Cheri, Chris, Jay, John and Melody.

Monday Night

Grams had a lot of visitors tonight, even the South Salt Lake Mayor Bob Gray came to see her and they gave her a really nice blessing. They found at that she has Lou Gerins disease, which takes away all of the motor skills. Tuesday morning they are going to take her feeding tube out of her throat and put it in her stomach, which will be good....Her throat has been so sore with that tube in there. They will be able to make sure that she is getting fed right. Grandpa has been so brave!! Nobody can even imagine what he is going through watching what is happening to Gram and not being able to do anything about it. We are proud of both of you and love you two so much!!!

Don't Kill the Messenger!!

Some of you might not like the idea of this blog, but we thought that it would be the only way to keep everyone updated. Grandpa, Chris, and Cheri can't repeat the story 20 times a day. Grandma is not in the state of talking....she has to use a white board to communicate with Grandpa! Grandpa is doing his very best to take care of Grandma....thank goodness for Cheri, Chris, Jay, Melody, and John!! They have helped Grandpa out so much, he probably couldn't do it without them.
*Rachel*

Monday morning...a set back

Gram was taken to the hospital about 6:30 this morning, because she couldn't breath. They are putting her in the ICU where they will put her on a manual ventilator to help her, it's not a permanent one right now. Please pray for her, she can not have visitors right now.
They gave Gramps his other shot for his staff infection when they got there this morning.
I will update as soon as I now anymore!

Sunday eve update

Hi everyone,
I just talked to Cheri she is still at Grandma and Grandpa's it has been a rough day, Grandma has a fever and if it gets to 101 she will need to go to the hospital, it was 100.01 a while ago. the nurse said it sound like she has a little fluid in her lungs.
Hopefully the tylenol will bring the fever down, she will need an antibiotic from the docotor as soon as they open tomorrow, hopefully she won't get worse through the night.
Melody is staying tonight with them so she will be ther to help and to keep a close eye on them.
Grandpa went back to the Doctor today and he has staff infection in the sores on his legs, so he needs to keep his legs elevated, and I don't think he is being a good patient, there are too many things that need to be done with Grandma and he don't think he should just be sitting... He needs to take care of him. He had another shot today and has to go back fo another one tomorrow.

When it rains it pours.. I wish the dark cloud would go somewhere else...

Wheel Chair Ramp

We have so many people willing to help with the needs of Grandma and Grandpa, John, Melody and Jay built a wheel chair ramp so when Grandma needs to go to the Doctors she will be able to be wheeled to the car and not chance her falling.
Thank you so much for all your time and effort to get this done.
As you can see once the ramp was finished, Jay got to be the first to take a ride to make sure it worked.
Grandpa even got in the chair and took a ride :)

Getting Nourishment

Well it is the second day withthe feeding tube, the first night was a rough one, the machine stopped working about 2:30 in the morning, we had to have John and Melody come over to see if they could help us get it working, we started over witha new bag of food and reset the machine it was working Yeah! We went back to sleep and at 4:00 the damn machines alarm started again, same problem.. so I unplugged it and had towait until we could get the nurse back out at 8:30, so Mom had no food for about 5 hours. The nurse came out and worked on the machine for about an hour, could not get it to work, so we ordered a different machine, in the mean time we started feeding her with a syringe through the tube every hour, after the feeding the tube has to be flushed out with water, so I told her she gets her dinner and chases it with a glass of water. I told her it is like having a baby by the time she gets fed, it is time to start it again.
When the second machine came out it had the same problem as the first one so again we had to order another machine, it not only took forever to get her the feeding tube now the machines are defective..
For now the Doctor wants her to be fed 24/7.
I talked with Grandpa this morning, Cheri spent the night last night. They said she was up every couple hours but the new machine stayed working, so that is a plus. Grams can't lay flat while she is on the machine because it will cause her to asperate. She has to contsantly be upright, when she lays down she has to be fed with the syringe and she has to sit up to have this done, but at least she can stretch out for a while.
Grams needs a lot of care right now, and Grandpa is doing such a good job taking care of it all, he ended up at the Doctors yesterday he has two ulcers in his leg due to poor circulation. The Doctor gave him a shot along with meds and ointment. Please keep him in your prayers he has a tough job.
Grandpa is a trooper, he has done a wonderful job taking care of Grams and I know it has not been easy. It has been very depressing for him to not be able to get her this nourishment before now. The Doctors have requires several tests and they all come out with in the normal range so what is happenig with her is frusterating for everyone. The Doctor finally agreed with the feeding tube, it was extremely difficult getting the tube in, the nurse came to the house to insert it, what an awfull thing to have to go through... Poor Grams.
Thank you for all of your prayers on their behalf, I know Grams and Gramps would love to recieve letters or cards or pictures from the little kids, I think it would lift their spirits.
We have a long road ahead of us to help Grams get her strenght back.
Chris

If you are wanting to see Grandma, please make sure that you are not sick, or have been around anybody that has been sick. Also, you might want to call and check in with them before visiting...the last couple of days have been really hard on them.

Rough Night On The Home Front

We are setting up this blog so you can see how Grandma is doing .... She received her feeding tube tonight, it was pretty rough for her. They are starting the feeding...she has to be on it for 24 hours, until they know what she can handle. Gramps is doing ok, he is learning what he has to do and how to work the machine. Please keep her in your prayers!!!
